Leave behind the comforts of civilization at Hverir, where the power of nature rules. Few countries compare to Iceland when it comes to volcanic activity, and this field of fumaroles and hot springs is a prime example. Experience the relentless undrground energy, visible in the columns of steam, boiling water, and bubbling mud pots. No plants or animals can survive in this highly acidic environment, but you will see an abundance of colorful minerals. Walk up to the vents and pools, taking care to stay safe. Wear comfortable shoes that you don't mind getting muddy. Note that the steam and smell of sulfur might be uncomfortable for some. • Beautiful geothermal area where you can make a ring route around the small craters. The smell is certainly very strong but still bearable and you can pass in the middle of the white fumes. Equip yourself with shoes ready to be super dirty because it sinks a lot in the mud.

  • It is one of the attractions around me baton in the zone where hot muddy water and steam springs from the ground. There is a large parking lot located in the south from Route 1. Since I went to the early spring, there were still a lot of snow left around me baton, but there was almost no lingering snow due to the high geothermal area.

  • What a cool attraction! We stopped here on our drive through northern Iceland and it was a really cool and unique experience. I'm only giving it four stars because you need to know that there is an overpowering sulfur smell here. My wife couldn't stay for very long and we had to wash all of our shoes. Great sight to see but be aware of the smell.
  • A great day time adventure in Iceland! This is a wonderfully unworldly place, seemingly between our familiar Earth and a strange alien landscape of boiling ponds, sulfur fumaroles and steaming vents. Wear good sturdy hiking shoes, and look but don't touch - some of the ponds, though they look innocuous, are scalding hot!
