Mt Etna, Catania
Europe's tallest active volcano, Mt Etna is a World Heritage site surrounded by a sprawling national park. The volcano is in an almost constant state of activity. It produces fertile volcanic soils that support the vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad surrounding plain. The national park encircling the volcano encompasses nearly 590 sq km (193 sq mi) and includes more than 20 towns. The park features snowy mountaintops, dense woods, and vast deserts of black lava. Due to the volcano's frequent and often dangerous activity, which is monitored by at least 100 seismic stations, this area is occasionally off-limits to tourists. Be sure to check for any current advisories before you make the trip. Arrange your visit to Mt Etna and discover more family-friendly attractions in Catania using our Catania trip builder site .

They led us with professionalism, kindness, and patience to the Vallee del Bove. The ascent was not always easy but at the top, we took our eyes full.
Ne vale veramente la pena; non si può saltare una escursione sull’Etna se siete nei paraggi PS: da evitare il giro in trenino veramente noioso e nulla che non potete vedere arrivando in auto more »It's really worth it; you can't skip a hike on Mount Etna if you're in the ps yep: avoid the really boring train ride and nothing you can't see coming by car
Good views. Interesting geology. Wear sacrificial boots because the lava rock is quite abrasive. Don't fall down on it either! Advisable to have layers of warm clothing. I also carry a thin anorak in case of rain.
I had the experience of hiking Etna for the better part of a day and have seldom found such natural wonder anywhere. If you are adventurous or love the wild, and are anywhere in / near Sicily. Go explore Etna with a guide.
