Palazzo Schifanoia (Palazzo della Gioia), Ferrara

3.6
Palazzo Schifanoia (Palazzo della Gioia) was once the recreational playground for the Dukes of Ferrara. The building is divided into the 14th-century wing to the west, which houses the civic museum, and the two-story 15th-century wing to the east. In the latter's Hall of the Months, you'll encounter some of the most important cycles of frescoes from that era. These impressive frescoes were divided into 12 sections, one for each month of the year (though today only the months of March through September are visible), and depict the world of gods, the cosmic world, and the world of man. A visit to Palazzo Schifanoia (Palazzo della Gioia) represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Ferrara visit planner to plot your vacation.

  • In part of this palazzo from 1300-century exhibited paintings and artifacts in ebony, bronze and pottery. During the earthquake in 2012, the building was damaged, but only at the beginning of 2018 Museum was closed for visits. There is in the fall 2018 no announcement when the Museum re-opens. Palazzo Schifanoia is almost next door to the Basilica of Santa Maria in Vado, as many tourists in Ferrara, Palazzo Schifanoia, and even though the visit is closed to visitors, we must nevertheless not cheat themselves to see the beautiful palazzo from the outside.

  • Appearance might not careful while Palace and I missed it. For fresco is on the second floor per month is 12 pictures kaminaka under 3 to separately, were drawn. A seasonal wind those frescoes are faded and peeling was well impressed with us and remain ever.
