On the 9th (Tue), see the interesting displays at Museum of Oriental Ceramics, explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, then see the interesting displays at Mint Museum, and finally take a stroll through Dotonbori.

Brisbane, Australia to Osaka is an approximately 14.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Wed): take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Toji, and finally contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 11th (Thu): don't miss a visit to Gion, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kodai-ji Temple, and then steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Kyoto is just a short distance from Osaka. Expect a daytime high around 22°C in April, and nighttime lows around 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 11th (Thu) so you can travel to Hakone-machi.

Sitting at the foot of Mount Fuji, Hakone-machi has become a popular retreat from Tokyo for locals and tourists alike.
Visit Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu and Yomotokan for their historical value. Do some cultural sightseeing at The Hakone Open-Air Museum and Pola Museum of Art. Change things up with these side-trips from Hakone-machi: Nature & Wildlife Tours (in Fuji), Wasabi Fields of Ikadaba (in Izu) and Inatori Hosono Kogen (in Higashiizu-cho). You can take a train from Kyoto to Hakone-machi in 4 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of train and flight. When traveling from Kyoto in April, plan for a bit cooler days in Hakone-machi, with highs around 15°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 13°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Sun) so you can go by car to Tokyo.
