For a daily dose of excitement, medieval jousting tournaments are held twice per day between the two walls--while this may sound like a typical touristy show, it's actually an entertaining display of combative competition and horsemanship.
Get in touch with nature at Sentier du Littoral and Orgues d'Ille Sur Tet. Step off the beaten path and head to O'Vineyards and Grotte des Canalettes. Explore Carcassonne's surroundings by going to Albi (Cathedrale Sainte-Cecile & Musee Toulouse-Lautrec), Domaine Boudau (in Rivesaltes) and Lac des Bouillouses (in Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via).
