Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Fri): sample the fine beverages at Tomatin Distillery Visitor Centre. On the 20th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: see the interesting displays at The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection), steep yourself in history at Fort George, stop by Cheese Pantry@ Connage, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Inverness Cathedral, and finally race across the water with a speed boat tour.

Edinburgh to Inverness is an approximately 3-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or take a bus. In July, daytime highs in Inverness are 22°C, while nighttime lows are 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Fort William.

Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. On the 22nd (Mon), take in the awesome beauty at The Three Sisters, look for all kinds of wild species at Glen Etive, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Highland Titles Nature Reserve. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 23rd (Tue): head outdoors with Morar Beach, then contemplate the long history of Glenfinnan Viaduct, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Nevis Range Mountain Resort, and finally take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Ben Nevis.

You can drive from Inverness to Fort William in 2 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Tue) to allow time to drive to Edinburgh.
